Silhouette Design Studio Tutorial : Make a Print & Cut + Die Cut Birthday Card

This clean and simple birthday card project uses elements from the new Happy Birthday Digital Patterns and Birthday-versary Digital Stamps + Borders Die Cuts Set for a look that’s guy-friendly but doesn’t scream “guy card”.

To make the card, I first set up the print & cut card panel (size: 2.75 inches wide by 4 inches tall) in Silhouette Studio. Then, I printed it onto Neenah Solar White 80lb. cardstock and cut it with my Cameo. I cut the numbers from the light aqua solid digital paper in the Happy Birthday patterns set, the candle-topped numbers from a mid-gray colored cardstock, and the larger card panel (size: 3.25 inches wide by 4.5 inches tall) from the Hand Lettered Happy Birthday pattern in the light aqua colorway.

Instead of using the pattern fill option in Silhouette Studio, I pre-printed a page that was set up with half the page as the solid color and half with the pattern, and I ended up having to trim off a bit from the patterned panel because I wasn’t happy with a blank area on the panel when the panels were layered. If I had used the pattern fill option in Silhouette Studio, I would’ve had more control over the placement and scale of the pattern in the panel, so I’d probably set it up that way if I were doing it again.

After all of the pieces were cut, I adhered the numbers on top of the candle-topped numbers with Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue and adhered the two card panels together with a double-sided adhesive runner before adhering them to an A2 card base, also using the double-sided adhesive runner. I attached the numbers to the smaller card panel with dimensional foam adhesive that I cut to fit and, as a final touch, I covered the candle flames with Platinum Stickles.

Check out the video below for a step-by-step, including everything that I did to set up the card elements in Silhouette Studio:
