Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and this sweet Valentine’s Day cardmaking idea is perfect for your sweetheart, a sweet friend, or your children or grandchildren. Basically, it’s a great card for any sweetie in your life for Valentine’s Day or at any time of year! This fun card features a darling scene of frosted, heart-shaped cookies on a cookie sheet, with a spatula and a patterned oven mitt to add an extra charming touch. Let’s dive into the details of how you can create this adorable Valentine’s Day card with your cutting machine!

Sweet Cookie-Themed Valentine's Day Cardmaking Idea with the Silhouette Cameo

I made this card using a Silhouette Cameo, but a Cricut, Brother Scan and Cut, or other cutting machines would work great, too!

Something that I like to do with projects like this that include several different colors is to put as many (or all, if possible) of the different cardstock colors on the mat at once and cut them at the same time. This makes the cutting process go much faster. I use the rulers in Silhouette Studio to help with cardstock placement on the mat.

This project also includes a couple of print and cut elements: the oven mitt and the sentiment. I used a pattern from the Hearts Aplenty Seamless Digital Papers and a sentiment from the Christmas Cookies Digital Stamps set for these elements.

For the icing details on the cookies, I used matte white vinyl. Vinyl is fantastic for cutting thin and intricate elements like the icing, and I transferred the vinyl to the cookies using transfer tape.

For small, thin, and/or intricate pieces that are cut from cardstock (like the top layer/frame for the cookie sheet in this project), I absolutely love using Stick It to add adhesive to the back of the cardstock. It’s super thin, so it doesn’t add much bulk at all when cutting with a cutting machine, and if your mat is still relatively sticky, in my experience the backing sheet sticks well, doesn’t slide around, and is easy to remove from the mat. If your mat is losing its sticky, then you may want to tape the cardstock in place with some washi tape. I also like the Mint Tape from Scrapbook.com.
