Pretty Pink Posh October 2016 Release Blog Hop

Welcome! Thanks so much for joining me for the Pretty Pink Posh October Release Blog Hop. I’m honored to be a part of the hop for this release and have two cards to share with you today.

Pretty Pink Posh Giving Thanks Distress Ink Watercolor Card

First up is this single layer Thanksgiving card that I made with the Giving Thanks Stamps. First, I used a powder tool to cover the area where I wanted to stamp “Happy Thanksgiving”. Then, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark Ink and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.

I was going for a soft and organic look, so I stamped a leaf pattern on Strathmore Cold Press Watercolor Paper with Versafine Toffee ink, which is a lighter, orange-y brown, instead of black ink, which I felt would be too bold for the look that I wanted. The cold press watercolor paper has great texture and makes for  slightly less crisp stamped impressions, which adds to the soft look.

I watercolored the card using several Distress Ink colors (see the full list in the supply area below), some of which I mixed to make more muted, fall leaf colors. For the first layer, I added a flat wash of color to each leaf, and after the first layer was just about dry, I came back in with a second layer of color to add texture and deeper areas of color. For some of the leaves, I kept the second layer of color the same or similar to the first, and for other leaves I used a second, complementary color for the second layer (ex: brown over orange or red).

Check out the video tutorial below to see more of the process that I used to make this card:

Pretty Pink Posh Winter Wonderland Happy Winter Card

The second card was inspired by the gorgeous colors in the new Winter Sparkle Sequin Mix. I just love all of those periwinkle, purple, blue, and iridescent sequins!

I die cut the medium size star from the Stitched Stars die set into the top center of a piece of MFT Grapesicle cardstock that was cut to 4″ x 5.25″. Then, I stamped the Happy Winter stamp from Winter Wonderland below the star with Versamark Watermark Ink and heat embossed it with white detail embossing powder.

After that, I used the snowflake stamps (also from the Winter Wonderland set) to make a pattern over the entire front of the card, again using Versamark Ink. I used Wow! White Pearl embossing powder, which has a wonderful, pearlescent finish, to heat emboss the snowflakes.

I made the star into a shaker by first gluing a piece of clear acetate a bit larger than the opening to the back of the card front. Then, I used the same die from the Stitched Stars set and cut that into a piece of white fun foam that was cut to slightly smaller than the card front. I lined the foam piece up over the star area on the cardstock and glued it in place. To finish the card, I added some of the Winter Sparkle Sequin Mix to the die area, glued a piece of white cardstock over the back of the die cut area to seal it closed, and glued the finished card front to a top folding, vertical A2 card base.
